Adding an Extension to Your House

Before adding an extension to your house, check if you need planning permission. Certain extensions fall under 'permitted development,' exempting them from planning permission.

Permitted Development:

For single-storey extensions:

Must be at the back of the house

Cannot extend beyond 3 meters for terraced houses, or 4 meters for others

Eaves height no higher than 3 meters

Maximum height of 4 meters, including sloping roofs

Must not cover more ground than the house

Cannot exceed half the curtilage

Not permitted within conservation areas
